Mercy Ministry

For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.' (Deuteronomy 15:11)

The Mercy Ministry at East Ridge Pres is a combined effort on the part of the church and church officers to alleviate the suffering of the poor through acts of mercy. The deacons of the church oversee this ministry by raising a special collection from an alms box in the narthex. This special fund is managed by a deacon-led Mercy Committee who is responsible for identifying those in need, discerning the appropriate response, and overseeing the Church’s actions to meet that need. Members of the church contribute to this ministry by giving alms and by praying for the struggles of the needy and the work of the deacons. They are also encouraged to lovingly carry out individual works of mercy and hospitality. It is our goal as a church to share with those in need the gospel of Jesus Christ. God’s love is easily demonstrated through acts of mercy. Indeed it is because of God’s mercy in sacrificing his son to save us that we imitate his great mercy by helping those who suffer.

Some of the mercy organizations we support are Amani International, Channels of Love, Pearl Ministries, Prison Prevention, and Widow's Harvest.
